DIY engine removal
Discussion
I have a Ford CVH to get out of a car, with the eventual aim of putting it in another car.
The engine in question only has a few meters to move - however the problem is that due to the drive being inclined and gravel - plus a huge step up onto the concrete of the garage, means hiring an engine hoist/crane thingy would probably be trouble.
The backup plan would be putting the car in the garage on the level, supporting and unbolting the engine and then pushing the shell back leaving the engine on the spot. Using a hoist/crane in the garage is again probably out of the question because the floor is pretty st and I can't imagine little castor wheels wanting to move while supporting an engine.
However, because of the unknown state of the engine (it runs fine, but I have no history etc) I was planning to strip it down anyway - which struck me with the idea that I just take it from the engine bay piece by piece. No cranes needed, no car shuffling needed. Is this a good idea? Might I still encounter weight issues? The other thing is separating the gearbox, I'm not good on clutches but someone said I might need special tools.
The final issue is the fact I've never stripped an engine before - while a Ford CVH is probably a good place to start, I'm sure something will go awry. That's a bridge to cross however, I just want it out so I can scrap the shell.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

I cant see any problems with stripping it in the car, parting the gearbox isnt hard just awkward if you have never done it before.
Clutch alignment tool may be needed to put it back but that can be borrowed or bought, some can do it without the tool.
Take some photos as you go along, masking tape and a sharpie marker can be used for labelling wiring etc and you can use some boxes or storage containers to put parts in.

Should work. Not sure you'll want to strip the pistons and crank out in situ, I mean you can, but it'll be very awkward grovelling around underneath. But if you strip it down to a short engine, I'd have thought that you + 1 should easily be able to lift it out on a bit of 4x2 and a couple of ropes.
