I was thinking of buying an extractor pump for doing the oil changes on my cars but I seem to keep coming across mixed reports on the net as to wether to use them or not.

Also does anyone have experience on which one to get as the pela 6000 has mixed reviews in that the hose goes brittle and breaks .

Also I see there is one called a mityvac which gets mixed reviews, I just wondered if anyone has any experience with extractor pumps and on which one to buy, I only really want a cheap one which will last a few years

mityvac is very popular in trade places.

I personally don't like the idea of sucking the oil out, and prefer to drain it 'properly' I think you get more of the old oil out.

I have a Pela for some changes to customer cars at their place (less mess... but depends on customer/change interval etc) I tend to whip off the sump plug at the end.... on frequent serviced cars (and mine) I fit at customers approval a Fumoto Quick Valve flick the lever and out comes the oil.... can have a type which you fit a hose and direct the old oil into an old 5 Litre can etc... The valve means you can open and close it during draining....

Drain from the sump bung and get all the rubbish out, also gives you chance to see if there is any metal debris lurking.
