Hi peoples,

Van anyone advise me on how to cleverly replace the battery on my 7? It is mounted under the steering column and the twin weber carbs. This is the first 7 I have owned where the battery is not mounted next to the heater.

Someone local told me the engine hat to come out which I doubt but not having dabbled for thirty years I though it best to throw this question out in the hopes there might be a clever sod who has devised a clever way of replacing their batter and save me some time. Thanks in advance.

A photo speaks a thousand words
But in the absence of I would think its a case of undoing cables and battery clamp and moving it to the front of the engine bay
There may be a way out from underneath
When you replace and relocate I suggest a small but powerfull battery such that Russ from Furore sells

No not possible but thank you for your reply. I think I need to drain the cooling system, remove the carbs complete with manifold and loosen off the steering column and remove the battery upwards. Never understood why anty designer would put an ignition source directly underneath a fuel supply. Thanks for your response it is appreciated

Weight distribution or packaging I'd guess. Does sound like a PITA!

Yep, common problem on older 7s. I have a '93 de Dion and subsequently moved the battery to the top of the passenger footwell. Have a look at subsection 2 below (as copied from my '95 Owners Manual):

Thank you so much. Sadly or fortunately I work away from home so my 92 7 HPC is last on the list due to huge DIY jobs that have mounted up so it is going to take a while but, your input is well appreciated. Cheers

This might be worth trying - it worked on my 1992 X flow (now a duratec..)

Lift battery out of base plate (Hang it on a piece of wire)
Undo the 3 bolts which hold the base plate to chassis rails and remove.
Disconnect engine mount on the battery side of the engine.
Jack up the engine slightly to increase the clearance between engine block and chassis rail.
Fiddle the battery downwards between the engine and chassis rail.

Good luck - hope it works for you.

Thanks for all your comments they are much appreciated. As the weber carbs could do with a face lift am going to strip them out and remove the battery more easily and have the opportunity to clean and polish the carbs. Yes I know its a bh of a job but all in all it kills many birds with many stones lol. Thanks again people. Best regards to you and hope you have many dry days Low Flying.
