Hoping for some clear advice before purchasing.
I am embarking on a motorbike rebuild and some wiring work is inevitable. So I need to select and buy a selection of crimp connectors and a suitable ratchet type crimp tool and heatshrink also.
Where and what specifically should I be biying and why?
I am less worried about budhet and more concerned about finish and reliability.
Thanks in advance

Daft though it sounds, they may need csalibrating/setting up to the correct crimp pressure.

I don't know if this particular one has a set-up procedure in the manual, some do/some don't.

If not rry t'interweb & somewhere you will find one, either that, or the wire/crimps could be wrong.

I have the exact insulated crimper and a similar uninsulated crimper from that online auction site for a 3rd of that price.
Normally come preset but the one set I have was too tight, as long as the jaws fully close when empty and you have to put little pressure on to overcome the last ratchet they are set, any tighter and your only going to struggle when actually crimping. You cant over crimp as the jaws are designed to have a minimum gap when fully closed.

Thanks for all the excellent info. What about cosumeables, like spade connectors etc. I was looking at some in Maplins and Halfords but they are all packaged so well its hard to get a 'feel' for what their quality is like!

This is a very general statement, and I apologise before saying it, in case anyone argues with it.

In my experience, the only pre-insulated ones I have come across with brittle & broken insulation, have been of the type of plastic that is shiny.

The ones with the matt finish, are hence what I normally seek out.

Alas I can, tell you brand names off the top of my head, I normally get mine from a local electronic supplier.

I have worked on many cars (and recently a motorbike) over the years, and I have always used
http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu for all electrical and related supplies.

I have never used a crimping tool - I prefer to do it carefully with a pair of needle-nosed pliers, and have never had a problem, so far.

Hi Tim, thank you for the extremely kind offer. Its a Benelli Tornado (2005) I am working on, so not exactly vintage and probably a mismatch. But thank you for being so generous, any pics of your handywork?
