hey the turbo that on the car is 2nd hand and the turbine splins r fine but the brown bit of the turbo were the gases go through there is a slit crack and where the compressor is it was leaking oil, and i got my my mate to take the car for a spin the other day bcuz his got traders and the turbo wasnt spinning up probly, like boost one mine n the next it didnt and then did an it was blowing smoke aswel, but the first turbo that was on the car i took it off and took it apart and thinking of getting a repaire kit off ebay and making one good one from the both
don't try making 1 good one out of the 2, you'll just destroy the turbo. they are highly balanced pieces of kit and reach speeds of over 100krpm (yes 100 thousand). If you haven't done a turbo before and have little or no mechanical knowledge I would strongly advise sending your unit to a turbo specialist or get a 2nd hand one.
It sounds like your core unit is sound enough to recon but until it's taken apart you can't say for sure.
