Hi folks

The bonnet hinges (well, mainly the offside one) on my Mondeo appear to be creaking slightly. I initially lubricated them with a bit of oil, which stopped the noise completely for about a week, then it started coming back (not nearly as audible / often, though) and so I used some white grease spray on them (cheap stuff, doesn't mention lithium) which again stopped it for a couple of days but it's starting to come back now. The noise transmits through to the cabin and drives me mad. It took me ages to find the source of it!

Should I be using something else? Should I be just replacing the hinges? Not sure how easy they are to remove on a mk3 Mondeo.

Thanks in advance.

Cue jokes about it being a Ford and how often you have to pop the bonnet on them!

I use a spray on grease stuff. Can't remember the name, but like WD-40, comes with a tube that allows you to get it right in the hinge area. Also useful for door hinges and locks, to keep them moving.

or get yourself a tub of grease and a small paint brush if you can get near the hinge pins

Any multi purpose grease will do, i tend to stay away from the white aerosol stuff everyone seems to use at it looks awful. Ive had good success with aerosol chain lube in the past and wd40 mixed with oil in a sparay bottle.

Something with Moly in, chain lube is a good option too.
