2003 Astra 2.2 sri rattling like a diesel

Hi guys, basically my Astra 2.2 sri has started sounding like a diesel on the idle, it is quite a rattly noise but does not seem to affect the way it is running.

Car is due a MOT and service at the end of the month so wondering if its worth plodding on till then, car is worth very little so been waiting for a big bill to come along then it gets scrapped.
Thinking it may be the timing chain but my mechanical knowledge is zero.

very common issue so id guess your spot on with your diagnosis, how long to leave it is a bit of a risk but if your dont want to spend any money on it then thats your decision!
Maybe worth removing a few covers to see how slack the chain is.

It is indeed the timing chain, you need to get it done asap so if you want it done at a service, then bring the service forward.

Cheers guys, I decided to be cautious and have not driven the car since, I called out breakdown today and they have taken the car to the Garage to see what exactly is wrong with it.
