2000 Focus 1.6 saloon, w/drums

Had a droning noise from the rear end, but no play in the wheels. Wheels didn't spin especially freely.

Purchased new Mintex rear drums with new (pattern) bearings.

One side was fine, went on, no movement in the wheel, all good.

The other side once fitted had some play from side to side. I refitted the original drum and bearing and no play.

Returned the new drum, explained the situation, they fitted a new bearing. I fitted it to the car and the same thing happened.

Refitted the original drum (again) and no play.

Seems like either the new drum or both the first and second new bearings are faulty. Any thoughts / suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Sure you haven't left a spacer/thrust washer stuck to the old one when you removed it?

Cheers, didn't notice anything however I will check again this evening and make sure.

I have seen something about a water seal being fitted to later Foci, not sure if this would make any difference though.

Im not sure of the set up you have however it does sound possible you have left a spacer out or maybe not tourqued up / adjusted correctly ?

If thats ok measure the old and new might give you some clues

Bit late to the party but, from memory its possible to put those bearings in the wrong way round.

Check the half shaft thing for wear too.
