I filled up my washer fluid the other day and when I started the car back up, the front washer jet was on constantly, it just wouldnt turn off.

As a quick fix i have unplugged the connector to the pump, so that it doesnt burn the motor out while driving the car. Obviously this means I have no washer fluid.

I thought it might be a faulty switch, so I just puchased a used wiper stalk, but this hasnt fixed it and the problem is exactly the same.

Any ideas where I go from here guys?

Thanks

Steve

Thanks buddy.

where would it be located? I have tried to get a mazda workshop manual for my model for months, with no luck.

I did hear a 'CLICK' when i last used it and it stayed on from that point. Click seemed to be from the drivers side.

Probably in the fuse box under a cover somewhere, if you can't find the handbook there's probably a layout diagram online somewhere which will show which one it is.

Would the relay be labelled at all?

I have tried to find wiring diagrams and manuals, with no luck at all.

If you put which model of Mazda you might find someone who knows.

Play around with the switch it may be another duff one, try operating it quickly for a few times in case its full of crap.
I wouldnt have thought it would have had a relay but if it does it should be near the fusebox. Try to locate it and pull it out, you may need to plug the washer pump back in for this to help you find the right one.
If it clicks when you pull it out chances are the switch is holding it on, if it doesnt then it will be welded closed.

Thanks.

I have tried flicking the switch and it hasnt worked. I also tried this on the new switch.

Should I take off the negative from teh battery before unplugging the relays? I am guessing I am going to have to try them all before I find the right one?

If there is no relay, or I cant find one, what would you suggest I do next?

no need to disconnect the negative, you wont hear the relay clicking if you do. you may need 2 people for this, one to plug the pump in (you may burn it out if you keep it running too long empty) and yourself to unplug the relays one by one
If there is no relay then a wiring diagram may be needed to trace the wiring back, does it have a headlamp wash system?

As if by magic. No relay in circuit.

ETA: This is for a Gen 1 Mazda, I'm pretty sure the Gen 2 is the same.

ETA2: OP, I've uploaded the workshop manual for you which has a troubleshooting guide in it on page 920. https://www.dropbox.com/s/kivcbmoy68esx04/Workshop...

John.

Thanks for the wiring diagram.

Looking at that, the only way the washer motor can get power, is if the switch is ON.

So that points to a faulty switch?

I will try the replacement again, but if that doesnt work I am at a loss.

Everything else on the switch/ stalk is working just fine.

ok quick update.

Tried the new stalk/ switch again and the fault is still present.

So its not the switch, it must be the motor? Would this be possible?

Here is a pic of a replacement unit for reference.

But for the motor to work it must have a live & earth so if it is working with the switch in the off position it is taking a live from somewhere else. I'd be concentrating on the wiring.

Agree with above if the 08 still uses the same configuration.

I would unplug the switch and see if you still have a live to the motor. If so, you have a short to live between the output from the switch and the motor (Blue / Orange wire).

its not clear what the connections are on that timer shown but its worth checking the connection that is on the output side of the washer motor switch

That timer is within the switch?

So if I changed the switch, it should have fixed it, which it didnt frown

The connection to the timer is only used to set the wipers going automatically as you turn the washers on.
