My OH has a Astra 57 plate and while cleaning the other day the mirror glass itself
Fell out. The carrier and everything else is still attached and looks fine.

I have suggested using impact adhesive to stick it back in but some forums etc people say to use double sided tape.....

The mirror is heated so I thought by using glue the more area contacted would be better for the heat to disperse?

So, what would you say is the best way to stick it back in?

It's a door mirror.

Use double sided tape, if you want extra security use both - a couple of strips of tape and some flexible sealant/adhesive (silicone etc) in between where it can't touch the strips.

I wouldn't use silicon. If the glass gets broken again, any shards left stuck to the silicon will be an absolute bd to remove and you may risk damaging, both yourself and the mechanism in your attempts to do so. Good quality double sided tape is the best option

The industry standard for affixing mirror glass is double sided tape, as stated don't use silicon.

Err, all the heated mirrors I've ever taken off / replaced have had two wires going to the actually mirror glass itself. I've not seen one yet where the heating element isn't actually the mirror but the backing behind it.

Either way, if the heating element is behind it, you want as close contact as possible. Double sided tape, unless uber thin, my result in poor contact.

If there is a heater involved that heater would be also be enclosed in double sided tape but that tape is clear and has no "foam inner" it's like double clear sided carpet tape.

So if it's heated the assy sequence is glass, heater element, DS tape, plastic carrier.

If it's not heated then the DS tape goes straight on the mirror, then into the plastic carrier.

Just for info I was a Quality manger for 6 years in the automotive glass cutting industry. smile
