The cheapest I've ever seen this is £35 from Asda and about the same from eurocarparts with any discount codes applied.

Just so everyone can benefit-

Funnily enough, eurocarparts have matched the price through amazon if you have a look at the other sellers. Going through their own website shows it at £46.66 without any discounts.

Check the date on it. I bought some cheap Castrol Edge from Amazon and it was a few years old on the label. Just worth bearing in mind.

You can usually pick this up for £26.99 over the counter at Eurocarparts using Click and collect when they have one of the near constant sales on. Though at the moment they seem to have jacked the price up so the discount doesnt have quite as nice an effect.

When you read the spec of these and similar high priced oils you see they are much the same to lower priced oils.
The cheapest 5W/30 ACEA A3/B4 oil I know of is Vauxhall Dexos 2 at £40/10 litres off Ebay.

Yes, because every ACEA A3/B4 oil is identical, right?

No, I'm not saying that. But OEM define a specification of oil suitable for use in the cars.
If anything further was required within the oil, they would say.

ps. not having a go at the OP - that price is competative.

But they do say - there are lists of oils which meet the specifications published by OEM's. And for, say, BMW at least, it isnt a 'list of people who paid us money' its a 'list of oils which *do* meet the requirements*' because there is a wide range of large and small brands on the list.

My manual for example specifically advises that I should only use oil that only meets ACEA A3/B4 to top up only if there is nothing else available. I know it's the 'in thing' on the internet to beleive all manufacturers lie and make things up but I figure there is probably a reason for them saying that, so I go along with it.

Manufacturers such as VAG, BMW, Mercedes etc have their own set of standards an oil must also conform to, A3/B4 alone isn't sufficient.

I'm always curious as to where people who make these sorts of statements get their information.

What engine are you putting the oil in to
does the engine require a better oil than say a nissan GTR or porsche 997 turbo both of which use Mobil 1

That's not exactly a robust way to assess 'best'. After all what does best mean? You need clear metrics to measured one against the other.

Date is the fill date and as long as the bottle is,sealed is really irrelevant, as I understand it, oil doesn't go off.
