I have a vauxhall astra 1700 diesel and would like to clean the egr valve anyone know hows the best way to do it and if it works or do i buy a new one.
Not the diesel one, but my 1600 petrol vectra version was two bolts and a cable to remove.Gave it a thorough squirting with carburettor cleaner. Looked a bit better, but not sure if it made a whole lot of difference.
Worth a go though just in case. Be prepared to get fairly dirty though.
Egr on the 1.7 is a pita to remove you will find it on the back right corner/ side (as you loom at the engine) it has a couple of coolant pipes leading to it, check these carefully as they are very prone to leaking & don't like to be disturbed. A overnight soaking in carb cleaner will be the best option to clean it out
