Garage storage
Discussion
I have a double garage with modern truss roof held together with the 1mm thick plates with teeth that get smashed into the wood to join the bits together.
I want to add a load of extra joists, floor boards and a loft hatch for storage up there.
I'm concerned that there isn't much excess strength designed into the truss set up with which to install a floor in the loft.
Have any PH'ers converted the truss space in their garage without any issues?
Cheers

This is what I'm aiming for (Ducati would be nice too)

My Dad did something similar years ago. He put a workshop in the roof space of our house. First step was adding in extra horizontal joists (supported by the house's load bearing walls) and then bolting in vertical timbers between the new joists and the angled roof trusses. He then sawed out the supporting trusses, leaving a room sized void in the middle of the loft. It was then floor boarded and plasterboarded to complete the room.
That was in the late seventies, and the roof is still there (unlike the garage roof, which blew down in the Huricane of the early eighties)
