Can any one recommend me a set of decent tin snips, I have been looking at the sets of aviation ones in Machine Mart but they seem to cheap to be good?? Or are they a bit of a bargain?

Well, if you can track down a Snap-on dealer, they make good ones with a lifetime warranty.

Failing that, try Halfrauds. They might stock Draper / SIP or the like

Machine Mart or similar work fine. Must have cut up about 3 full sheets (8x4') of 0.8mm with mine doing little patches on cars. The curved ones are pretty useless but the yellow straight ones work fine. Have to adjust them so they are tightish (only once) and it helps if you bend one bit of the cut steel down to provide clearance. Compared to old straight shears the compound aviation shears are great.
