Yup,

I don't have the facilities for an air compressor, but I do fancy a cordless impact wrench, for jobs such as taking apart suspension components, taking off wheels, etc. I see a lot of them hovering around the 100 quid mark such as the Clarke models, and whilst they look good for the price, I'd be more concerned with the fact that when the battery goes pop, it would be difficult to source a replacement.

Anyone got one? What are they like in real world use? Recommend me one smile

I can't recommend a specific one as I use the windy variety. However, I will say to get one with the highest torque you can afford. I have a SIP air gun and its useless. The compressor is up to the job but the gun can't deliver enough torque to undo wheel nuts sometimes.

Id give the clark 24v a go, its won quite a few awards in various magazines ive read. If it does go pop in a few years time its cheap enough to buy another, if you bought a makita etc and a battery fails it can cost about £70 just for a new battery.
The batteries dont like being sat around though, its the kind of tool you would need to use fairly regularly to get the best out of.

try Hilti, they do a few different sizes, not cheap, but last forever or just return if it fails and they usually just replace it as long as its not accident damaged!

If you can live with corded then the Clarke 240 V impact wrench is pretty good.

Its quite large but very powerful.

Or a Makita Li-ion 18V but thats £100 naked.

The Clarke 24v impact gun is pretty poor IMO. It has very poor torque compared with lower voltage, better brands e.g. a friends physically smaller 18v Dewalt gun kicks the ass of my 24v Clarke. It struggles with tight wheelnuts, and you can forget anything properly tight like a crank pulley bolt. I have an old Snap On air impact wrench and it makes the Clarke look like a toy.

The mains powered Clarke model is supposed to be somewhat better, but I've not tried it myself.
