The SRS Airbag light is on in my W202 (2000 reg) Merc C-Class; caused when I disconnected the cable under the passenger seat too soon after disconnecting the battery. The system hadn't discharged properly so when I put the seat back in and reconnected the lead and battery, the airbag light came on and is on permanently.

I could take it to a garage and get charged quite a bit for a few minutes of work to switch it off, but I'd rather buy a code reader / resetter and do it myself, it'll be cheaper I assume!

Can anyone recommend a device that will cancel the airbag light?

I've heard mixed results from the Merc forum I frequent, some saying a particular unit did the trick, whilst others saying it didn't work.

Thanks for any pointers!

only the more advanced code readers can get into the airbag systems, dedicated airbag tools are available for reset purposes only. There are lots on ebay but i cant comment on any of them as ive never used one

... I have been down this route with my own customers before buying crap from china to reset dash lights, my advice, take it to a garage. As long as there is no fault, the garage should reset for free.....I wouldn't charge you.

Thanks guys, I'll ring around a few garages and see what they say - I don't mind paying a few quid but I fear they may charge an hour's labor or something as a minimum to do what will be a two minute job.

Call round in person you'll get better results than phoning round. Unless y0u've got a pet garage expect to pay around 30 quid. Cheaper than a code reader, but you can use your code reader over again, if its any good.
