Evening PH

My old man has finally accepted I love doing mechanically stuff and he has just called me as asked what i want for christmas, im 22 and feel rather spoilt and happy! very lucky.

ive been thinking of what do i need tool wise, and im at abit of a lost so im throwing the floor open,

main things;
£60.00 MAX
Has to be shop bought - internet buying is a risky business at this time of the year
Has to be good quality - i want it to be something he can see me using or he can see is still getting use much later down the line

my 3/8's driver and 1/4 driver are both pretty ropey as they were cheapies, thinking along those lines maybe

GO PH TEAM!

Halfords pro stuff is supposed to be pretty good TBH. If I could avoid losing spanners every five minutes I'd buy some. biggrin

I have been a mechanic for nearly 20 years, I would go for a half decent set of combi spanners.
You can never have enough.
You don't need a torque wrench. Everybody likes them because its makes you look and think like you know what your doing.

cheers for the suggestions

I already have a decent selection of sockets, just the drivers that are spent, plus my old man hates halfords with a passion, too many bikes, roof racks and misc. tat from there thats had to go back.

machine mart seems like a good call, seem to be fairly solid of quality from the stuff i have smile

How do you torque down cam covers then? Or oil filters? Or wheel bolts?

I know it's a old ebay ad, but if you can find your local mac man. It's one of the best bits of kits I have bought. It has every bit you will ever need including anti tamper http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mac-Tools-100-Piece-Bit-...

Oil filters? Are you serious? Hand tight!
Cam covers need a nip up and are tight.
Wheel bolts are are a different thing if you are not doing it all the time, fairynuff.
The only thing I torque are head bolts.

If dad isn't much of a Halfords fan then maybe treat yourself to some Halfords stuff and ask him for a decent tool chest to put it all in?
