Hi petrolheads,

I recently bought a 89 TVR S2.
i picked it up for a few quid because it needed some love.
one of the problems was a fuellpump that did not worked. i found out the problem lies in the inertia fuel shut-off switch.
But I cant find the damn thing. i looked everywhere including the passenger footwel, driver footwel, firewal, boot.

I Hope someone can help me find the whereabouts of this little bugger.

greetings from belgium,
Victor

You might be better off posting this in the TVR S section of the message boards.

May be under the bonnet on the bulk head.

Don't think there is one, certainly not one on my S3? think your problem could be elsewhere ?

Was just about to say the same thing, there isn't one on mine (S3C).

The parts catalogue doesn't show one either:

I don't know if the S3 has one but mine is on the left hand side bulkhead, half way between the inner wing and transmission tunnel.. Small black box, pull the two wires out the bottom and connect together to bypass.

Victor how do you know it is the inertia switch if you cannot find it?

It could be that the inertia switch has been removed. Have you ruled out both of the metal capped relays (fuel relay and the ECU relay)? failure of either of these will stop the pump working as I found out when my car came out of hibernation this Spring. The ECU relay had become sticky over the winter and gave the symptoms of a failed pump relay.

Btw my inertia switch is in the engine bay on the bulkhead in front of the passenger.

Cheers
Paul

I had an early 1990 S2 and was told that TVR did not fit the inertia switch.

I had a problem with a new Bosch fuel pump, but it turned out to be a manufacturing defect.

Is the fuel pump relay OK? Mine failed after about 5 years.
It was badly made (Ford) and full of water!

I have found with mine if you hit a road bump quite hard, it dislodges a fuse in the box in the passenger footwell, and the engine splutters, and in extreme circumstances cuts out, a wiggle of the clear/white 25 amp fuses seems to get her going again.
This may help!!
