If you wanted to fit a recent engine into an old car, who would you go to to handle the electrics?

TIA

You could buy the requisite parts/loom and a diagram and DIY....

other than that, a good local mobile auto electrician could sort it, but look at about £25 an hour unless you can negotiate a price.

If a Ford I would go to Turbosports forum, other car engine combinations I would talk with the guys on Locostbuilders.
Even if you don't want to do the work yourself these places will guide you through and possibly stop you being ripped off.
Joining a local car club will often give access to knowledgable and helpfull members.

Its something I make a hobby of, done various Peugeot and Ford and currently working on a DTA'd 16v MK1 Golf soon to be followed by another 16v converted Golf running the manufacturers management.
As soon as I start cutting wires everybody else tends to stay away from me laugh

Wish I was as brave and knowledgable as you when it comes to wires.

Thanks all for the imput. Was mainly thinking how to get over problems wiring in the management system and how to get over problems like, going from speedo cable to sensors and such like

It really depends on the manufacturer of both parts. One of the most common problems with later stuff into old stuff is immobilisers built into the ECU and also the ability of modern management driving older tacho's. All easy to overcome by either research or money hehe
Speedo drives are a little harder, its always worth checking if an older gearbox with a mechanical speedo drive is available for the engine or the speed sensor in the gearbox can be removed and fitted with a mechanical output.
The main wires in any management system are going to be the supply, the switch, the fuel pump and the tacho drive, and not forgetting the systems earth.

I've heard the immobiliser problem mentioned before. Luckily the engine and management I want to use, an LT5, I have in my ZR-1. I can always plug that into my car and have immobiliser disabled. I also want to use a ZF gearbox 6 speed, not sure if these use the two ways of working the speedo?
