Hello fellow posters,

I need some major advice from you helpful people,

I've just bought a Vauxhall Vectra 02 plate and needs some work done to it
I would be grateful for any / all advice on the following..

1. Sounds like a hole in the exhaust at the front,
How can I tell how bad it is ?
will i need to replace the whole exhaust or just half ?

2. My drivers electric window doesn't work but all the others do,
how do i check that it's the motor or the switch ?
can I remove the door panel without breaking anything ?

3. Passangers side wing mirror needs replaced.
Do I just pop the glass out and put in another mirror or do i have to replace the whole unit?

4. on the display after i start it up it show's test brakes after that it show's "brake pad" permently afterwards - is this a sensor ? - where is the sensor ?

5. The sunroof opens to a quater only and wont close again afterwards until i put my key in the door and physiscally lock the car rather than using the fobb - is this the switch on the roof ?

many thanks in advance your any / all assistance

That depends it could be a small hole your local friendly garage could weld, it might be that the whole system is rotten as a peach and needs renewing. You can only get an idea by getting (safely) under the car.

It could also be the wiring! You need to find the often hidden screws holding the panel on, then remove the trim clips (best way is to use trim removing tools to avoid damage). Then a multimeter is your friend you can check for current to and from the switch and to the motor and work out which is faulty.

In theory you should be able to replace the glass but there might be internal damage to the mirror. The glass can be a royal pain to change, be careful you might have to partially take apart the mirror unit.

The sensors will be in the brake pads , if you check the pads there should be a thin wire running to the middle of the pad. Normally if this shows your brake pads are worn out, sometimes it means the sensors are knackered or the little wire has broken!

I would leave the sunroof closed/alone until you have sorted the more important issues, get your self a Haynes manual and do some bed time reading!
