Just to let you know, I got a OBD2 scanner last year, for working on the GF's Golf (2003).
It lets me see any stored engine faults, reset the engine management light, see live readings from all sensors and allows data logging of all sensors(with graphs).
I dont know if thats exactly what you are looking for but it has served me well and never given me any trouble.
I got mine from talktomycar.co.uk and Im sure it cost less than £50 and they had a good range of other scanners for different cars (depending on the year - canbus / OBD and car - you can get a VAGCOM for VW / Audi etc, that lets you reset airbags or code in new components - Im not sure if Jag has an equivelent system)

The "mongoose" is supposed to do far more than the cheap generic obd tester mentioned above. Wether it does or not, I don't know, I have no experience of that particular device, but have used jag factory diagnostic kit. The vag-com mentioned above is an extremely good tool for the VAG cars, but you need to know how measuring blocks work, and if you are looking at obd cheap stuff for a jag it's totally irrelevant. Bear in mind that if you buy one of the many hundreds of cheapo obd testers as mentioned, don't expect it to do anything more than look at a few very basic engine parameters, spew a few generic p-codes and switch off the engine light. They will not help you with any in depth vehicle tests...

Thank youI don't want go for the mechanic, because they always let me get old car parts replaced. So I was wondering can I do some chip tuning to increase car horsepower. The VAG-COM you mentioned, is it a connect cable? I don't think it can do any resetting or tuning, so it is not helpful to me.
No, the VAGCOM will only work on Volkswagen/Audi group cars, it was mentioned in the post above mine which is why I refered to it. If you have a problem with your car and it is down on power, then attempting to chip-tune it would be like a poorly applied band-aid. You should take it to a garage, a decent tuning file will cost many hundreds of pounds (if you can find one amongst all the crappy eBay-type sellers that actually works!) and even then you will still need equipment that loads the file. I would take it to a decent mechanic, preferable someone who knows a bit about jags, and pay them to diagnose the problem only. You can then take the car away and fix it yourself....

The OBD scanner I mentioned aboved is just a scanner (engine light reset, sensor data etc). I only mentioned it as when I was looking, there were a LOT of cheap scanners from China and on Ebay and from what I read at the time, a lot of them were very poor (some people ended up with something that looked right, but after it not working found out that it was just a box with a couple of flashing LEDs and nothing else).
The one I got did everything I needed at the time (read engine codes and see sensor data, so I could find out what sensor was not working - turned out to be the engine coolant sensor. Meant I could change the sensor - better than unknown garage saying this or that was wrong and charging for replacement of half the sensors) so good enough for simple checks.
If you are wanting something that allows you to do engine mapping then that is something completely different - different chips inside the device and different pin configurations. Changing the mapping isnt something I have tried yet but then I am more familiar with changing fuelling by swapping carb jets and ignition advance with a spanner and a timing light. Engine tunings just not the same if you can do it from the passenger seat and your hands dont get dirty. LOL.

I got the "OBD Link Scan Tool - USB" "MJ-026A"
I see from their website that it costs £80 - I dont know if that was what I payed for mine (I thought it was around £50)It might be that I got mine on offer or just my memory failing me (probably the latter).
