Recently the right front and tail parking lights died and I replaced the fuse and all was well.

A month later the fuse went again and now whenever you replace the fuse it sparks and blows as soon as the lights are switched on.

I have removed the towbar electrics from the circuit and removed the tail light bulb from the cluster (can't remove from parking bulb as my hands are bigger than a 7 year old!), but it still blows.

And helpful ideas welcome!

I would try to remove the bulb if its a dedicated parking circuit first as its not uncommon for a faulty one to cause this. if this fails you will need to inspect the wiring to the offending lamp, probably a short to earth somewhere. Does it happen when the normal lights are used?

Thanks for reply.
Have tried it with whole rear cluster removed, with same result can't reach front one due to being an adult!
Any hotspot for damage to the wiring loom? Removed trim by nearside front door and all looks Ok.

...by the way, first click of light switch causes fuse to pop.

favourite places are moving parts such as the point where the wiring loom leaves the car and enters the rear hatch through the rubber grommet.
May be worth checking there as the number plate lights circuit may be causing it if its on the sidelights (first click as you say)
