Hi All
Has anyone here have any thoughts on sound insulation for my compressor.
The situation is I have an integral garage with a compressor in and I'm just about to start building a kit car, to enable me to work a bit later in the evenings
I need to deaden the sound.
It currently resides under a worktop in a internal corner, was going to put doors in front just need something to put on the vertical surfaces and under worktop. I was also going to stand it on a bit of carpet.
Any other ideas welcome.
Phil

What tools are you planning on using? Most air tools will make more noise than a compressor.

Not only this but a compressor needs an air supply to work and as most are air cooled, Living in an enclosed cupboard might not be good for it.

I was going to leave a gap at the bottom of the door for ventilation. The main tool to start with is a air pop riveter as I understand I have a few hundred to do

Surely you'll have a vessel for storing compressed air? Will this last long enough to permit you to work for a couple of hours after the comrpessor is switched off?

Put it outside.
It is a big problem keeping it fed with cooling air whilst not letting the sound out!

I've just been thinking about the same issue, our bedroom is directly above the garage and Mrs Hoonigan will not allow the compressor to run when she is in bed.... Not got my riveter yet but I do believe you can get quite a few in just using the tank.

What are you going to build?

That us the best domestic solution. A big dog kennel works. Good luck with the kit car! I have been building them for 50 years now, I started with a Austin Seven special followed by an Ford E93A Falcon in 1962. I still am currently building and rebuilding five. By far my favourite hobby.

I have been married five times: Kit Cars are more reliable and less demanding! However women are ultimately more fun. And expensive. But more fun.

Sel it and buy a hydrovane type compressor, they are a lot quieter. I had a twin piston traditional type for years and was offered a second hand hyrovane with a bigger tank, I was going to take the head off and put my twin piston top on the bigger tank but when I fired it up and could still have a conversation with someone while stood next to it I got rid of the other compressor, don't get me wrong, it still makes noise but it is MUCH less.
