What do you use WD40 for?
Discussion
It is claimed that WD-40 and other similar products, have thousands of uses.
I read somewhere that you can use it to get stains out of upholstery, for example - I've not tested it yet.
I wondered though, of all it's purported uses, how many of them is it any good at?
I've used it to roughly clean up the engine bay, but that's about it. Oh, and for oiling the front door lock, which is what I bought it for.
What would you recommend it for - I bought a big can, so I might as well find some uses

Excellent trv8, thanks for posting that. I personally use it for the following...
1. Degreaser when I'm out of Gunk or Jizer
2. General-purpose cleaning
3. Quietening-down dry/noisy aux drive belts
4. Removing tar spots from paintwork
5. Cleaning my grimy mitts when I should've worn gloves!
There was a recent thread where some folks were bashing WD-40, but it's a brilliant all-rounder IMO... a real jack of all trades, master of none, but always good to have on the shelf!

My 6 year old 130i suffers from occasional rattles/creaking noies from the door / window seals.
Every 6 months a 10 minute wipe round them all from a soaked applicator pad of WD40 does the trick.
It does perish certain rubbers*. Try silicone lube instead.Every 6 months a 10 minute wipe round them all from a soaked applicator pad of WD40 does the trick.
I use mine for cleaning wheels, motorcycle chains etc, lubing hinges. Handy stuff.
(* And I have personal, unequivocal experience/evidence that it does - so I don't care if it doesn't have white spirit in!)
Thanks for all the replies.
I've cleaned up some of the plastic under the bonnet, and all the channels around the boot where crud usually collects.
I've also cleaned the plastic sill covers on the inside of the car because I park on a muddy verge - so far they seem to be keeping cleaner with WD40 on than they did with Vinyl and Rubber care.
