snap off diagnostic upgrade?
Discussion
evening all, our boss is thinking about upgrading our snap on diagnostic machine( modis) if anyone wants to know, to a snap on verdict system.
we have had a chap came round today, who performed a demo for us, and it seemed much better than out current system, especially with all the component testing available!
just wondering if anyone has got any experience with these, and whether its worth paying more for a better system if there is one?
any experiences shared would be good
thanks
chris

We had a Verus on hire and it was a POS. As far as I gather the Verus is just a Verdict with the scope built in rather than on a seperate module. We had a Verdict for a week, and it wasn't as bad. They run on windows XP, which essentially ruins them. Crashed constantly.
The only good thing I can say is the wireless is useful, and the scope is quite clear (on the verus, I didn't use it on the verdict). The information on seperate componants and the actuator tests are useful, but it's very selective about what cars and what components it'll work with.
I wouldn't buy one with my own money is the conclusion I came to.

interesting, thanks for the reply!
as far as i could see, the verdict seemed pretty capable, and ran fast, our demonstrator said it was running win7 i think? seemed very *smooth* to use. although i suppose anything is a step up from our current modis
after seeing what the verdict could do, and been shown properly what the modis is capable of, the only real advantages the verdict has is the screen, the wifi/camera, and the wirelessness(speeeling)
obviously i wouldnt buy one with my own cash, but from a workshop point of view would it be worth upgrading to that particular model?

Snap on diagnostic tools are average. From model to model they all have the same diagnostic capabilities.
Better off looking at a laptop based tool as you can then run a couple of programmes together for less money than one snap on unit.

I guess it depends on how much you want to spend. However the auto logic is generally considered one of the better after market tools.

We have a Verdict and a Verus in our workshops and I like them both. The scope is good if you actually use a scope that is. As for the code reading side of things no one tool will cover everything and yes there are holes in the software but that said the updates are covering new models all the time. On the whole I would go for another Verdict if we needed to replace a peace of kit. The Modus will cover ignition like the Verus does when scoping the Verdict doesn't though.
