I probably need to get a new battery tommorrow. Halfords are selling the bosche battery at £110ish, where as euro car parts (5 miles down the road) are selling it for £55. However, they're closed tomorrow so if halfords will match the price it'll make my life a lot easier!

Cheers

Why should Halfords price match? They offer a service that ECP doesn't. ECP offer a lower price - at the compromise of shorter opening hours - lower overheads to some extent for them. ECP may not have the item in stock at the branch you need, Halfords likely will.

Either wait until Monday or do a bit of work yourself & find another supplier who both opens Sunday AND sells at the lower price to make your life easiest. Or accept the compromise if you really need that battery tomorrow.

They will do on service items if you have a trade card, not sure on non card holders and batteries.

That didn't really help, did it? hehe

Do they not need to be able to call and check the price and availablity of the product you want price matched? If they are closed then they have no way of knowing what price they sell for.

I used to work in a halfords years ago when I was in college - I remember that they used to price match but I wasn't sure if they still do, or do so on batterys specifically.

No need to be rude! smile

Good point. They might be able to check on the net; I'll just have to make the trip to find out tomorrow. Just hope I don't stall on way.

We do price match on stuff that's available at that moment, yes. If it was Saturday and ECP had the battery on the shelf, fine, a quick phone call to them would be enough to confirm the price and most managers would match for you. On Sunday when ECP are closed.. Nah, I wouldn't expect so. You might get lucky, but I wouldn't do it myself and it's a hell of a reduction!

For reference, Halfords will price match absolutely anything against anybody nearby, so long as they have the same immediate availability and the products are identical. Trade outlets, supermarkets, whatever.

Just what I was after. Thanks. I'll pop down there tomorrow and see what they say. I'd rather not pay double the price though!

His degree in college wasn't a degree in English, because he spelled batteries incorrectly.

I should imagine Halfords would tell you to get stuffed, especially price matching against a Motor Factors rather than a retail outlet.

No, they won't. Like I said above, Halfords price match against everything, whether retail or trade, so long as the price is available to public - ie, not a staff offer - and the product is the same and available on the shelf.

Use someone else's trade card and we'll take it off you, mind, everything needs to be signed for and they won't be getting another if someone else uses it wink

So, if I rocked up at Halfords with a mega cheap quote for a stereo from t'internet, they would honour it?

Halfords will price match anything within a 20 mile radius of the store.

Noticed a big sign on the window of my local store a couple of days ago.

No. Available on the shelf, Jesus kids wink

The rules are identical product, 20 miles, same day, immediate availability, bricks and mortar store, publicly available price.
