I'm currently spending a lot of time hiking in various places and whilst I have a high level understanding/can make sense of flora, fauna, weather and space, I have a woeful 30yo forgotten GCSE level of understanding of the actual ground I'm walking on.

I'd like to be able read the landscape I'm in a little better.

I enjoyed the BBC documentary 'Men of Rock' which was an interesting introduction, however I'm looking to delve a little detail without it being too heavy/academic; it needs to be digestible.

A book pitched like Tristan Gooley's excellent 'The Walker's Guide to Outdoor Clues and Signs: Their Meaning and the Art of Making Predictions and Deductions' or the youtube equivalent.

Any suggestions please?

BBC's "Earth Story" documentary series from the 1990s was excellent.

It's showing its age a bit (it's in the old 4:3 screen ratio for example) but it was an excellent series.

The presenter, Aubrey Manning, died in 2018.
