I predict mayhem. Here's a very tiny example of how it makes lies, either by aiding humans to lie when not making up stuff itself:

What else can it fake?

A nuclear attack warning?

People have predicted mayhem due to new tech for years. It’s nothing new and rarely is as warned. It’s mainly because we fear change, especially the older we get.

That is true, but they also said that iron ships couldn't float, that man couldn't survive at speeds above 60mph and that the Great War was the war to end all wars. AI is not a new kind of coffee machine, it's a new species of animal, the behaviour and consequences of of which we do not know and cannot predict.

The AI we currently have is not a self aware Skynet pre-cursor, the problem is far more likely to be people creating AIs to manipulate elections, public opinion, financial markets or running scams.

And we already have the mainstream media for that.

There seems to be a movement for complaining about election results. When Trump got in, Clinton supporters went round smashing shop windows. When Biden got in, Trump supporters attacked the Capitol. Both losers said the election was rigged. When Remainers lost the EU referendum we had years of incessant bhing and whining trying to overturn it; the Scots voted to stay in the UK but the losers want another referendum... the modern way is to demand 'democracy' until you get the result you want, because if you lost it was (obviously) undemocratic... spin

I preferred the time when people voted, then everyone shut up about politics for five years and talked about more interesting things instead.

Either democracy is constantly evolving and people are free to continue to campaign for what they believe in or it isn’t democracy.

It's not just politics.

Social media expands to accommodate the genius and the dross available.

I would call that freedom of speech. But the risk then is that the noisiest angriest people get heard most, and I don't wish to be ruled by noisy angry people.

But gong back to the question of AI, it will mean that those who control AI can control everything else.

It'll be the mechanism for perfecting the masses of made up content to influence many. Already people fall for half baked ideas that are put across quite well.

Soon many more will be falling for very convincing arguments that are made up.

Why would or should anyone care about doctored stuff on social media. In my experience Alexa is fking useless, sat nav still drives me into traffic and my laptop still crashes so they have a long way to go yet.

One concern I've had a thought about AI since covid broke out is ideally you want to teach AI about genetics so you can create a new cure for any given disease. There is however room for menice if you end up with someone asking it to create a new disease though.
