Hi All

I need to start and understand machine learning and wondered if there are any good resources to look at?

I don't know too much about it beyond the very basics. Would be looking really to just get a handle of the different types (i.e. like random forest, Neural Nets, k-Means etc) and what kind of application each type of algorithm is suited to. I see a lot of stuff that talks about applications to image recognition or machine vision (I guess pattern recognition?), but I am more interested in using machine learning with time-series data, using the tools to characterise/model complex systems (like vehicle power trains, or battery systems). For example, the data I have would be hours-long test data as a system is exercised dynamically through various points and then I would like to start and understand how I might build a predictive model from that kind of data.
