Breaking news on BBC. Sad day as probably my favourite of the 11 crew. Just Buzz left.

Ah that's really sad.

His book, Carrying the Fire, was possibly the best from the Apollo era.

Came across as very humble, and I don't recall anyone in any of the books having a bad thing to say about him.

RIP Mike Collins CMP11

Sad indeed. He always came across as a decent and humble guy.

I didn’t know he was born in Rome. The son of the American military attaché at the time (1930)

Just saw on his facebook page. He always came across as one of the most likeable astronauts I thought.

Bit of a hero to me. At secondary school, our houses were named after astronauts. Glen, Lovell, Armstrong and Collins. Collins was my house. Nice way of remembering him.

Does that mean only one person on the planet today has walked on the moon?

There are four moonwalkers still alive, and now six who orbited but did not land.

Buzz Aldrin - Apollo 11
Dave Scott - Apollo 15
Charles Duke - Apollo 16
Harrison "Jack" Schmidt - Apollo 17
