I'm looking for a simple to use microscope for the grandkids to use. (I'd like a go as well..)
I was lucky enough to use some lovely Vickers optical ones years ago & wonder if the digital ones can possibly give an image of similar quality up to say 250x?
If you've bought one & can make a recommendation it would be very helpful, thanks, Julian

Hopefully under £40 - there seem to be a lot on ebay for about £30 & they all look the same! I don`t really want a screen but would plug it into an old laptop.

What's the focal depth at max magnification?

Couldn't tell you, but I suspect not that good. Cheap microscopes don't have much in the way of control over aperture, and for the stuff I've used ours for, DoF wasn't important.
