I’m into conspiracy theories, some may make sense when we’re talking about wars and what not but not when it comes to viruses, 5G, radiation and the illuminati spying on you. I don’t believe any of that because I don’t see any reason an elite organisation would try to control us and spy on us.

But, there’s a lot of information flying around on Instagram (don’t dismiss it immediately) and I can’t find any of this information online from media outlets so I thought I’d bring it here as we all like a good discussion.

What is 5G

Does it have anything to do with radiation

Is it linked to COVID-19

Why are there dead birds and ducks on the street (saw a few videos of this in the present day and a lot of people commenting they saw the same)

Why is there no media coverage or information about 5G’s negative affects.

I’m not saying I believe any of it but the dead birds and radiation part of it got me.

Does anybody have concrete information on all of this?

Much appreciated

As for the dead birds, perhaps they just died, and then didn't get their carcass crushed by passing cars and/or kicked into the undergrowth by passing people, there being fewer of either. Or maybe they were wandering about and got killed by a fox, cat, or stray dog? The reduction in human traffic also means more animals possibly wandering about in general.

I must say, that makes some grim reading.

A Vaccine for the COVID-19 could take 12-18 months until it’s ready. It’s to make sure there’s no adverse side effects and to make sure it’s 100% safe. How can something that gives faster internet with the potential to harm humans via radiation be considered. Why would 5G harm us in the first place and why do we even need faster internet? My internet is fine I’m not bothered.

No evidence, but did anyone credible actually check? No idea one way or the other, but yet to see anyone defending 5g point to an official body having tested it.

Disinformation is hugely harmful. Please do not contribute to it spreading.

Why someone would associate a new bandwidth of information dissemination with a virus is astounding to me.

Please mods kill this rubbish.

Yep.

And why is this junk in GG? Maybe a MX5 killed the birds?

This.

This sort of thing is extremely unhelpful.

It seems a conspiracy about absolutely everything has passed inevitability and is now a prerequisite. And that's from someone fairly lenient to the whole carousel.

Internet platforms (such as PH) have a duty to chuck out dangerous and stupid conspiracy ste - and those who spread it, if necessary.

Such imbecilic assertions as posted by the OP are a virus of a sort in their own right and we deserve to be quarantined from such arrant, stupid and dangerous behaviour.

In 2020, Ofcom, the UK regulatory body, revealed the results of 5G radiation testing in 10 cites. No health risks were identified and the result of measurement equated to 0.039% of a safe exposure level.
So the radiation from 5th generation transmitters is nominal. And like many I still don't get the link to a virus!

As conspiracy theories go, its pretty weak sauce.

It's a standard for the 5th generation of mobile data (5th generation = 5G), as we've already seen with 3G, 4G, etc.

Not in the Chernobyl / nuclear sense, no. It uses radio waves - the same stuff we use for TV, radio, wi-fi, etc.

Not even slightly.

No idea. Nothing to do with 5G.

Because there are no negative effects. You may as well ask why there is no media coverage about the tigers living on the moon...

Anyone with a high school education in physics at a passing grade. wink

5G was actually developed about 60 years ago and is the sole reason why the plugs in a 2-stroke engine occasionally oil up.

It is also directly responsible for 98.2374% of all spillage of open tins of paint.

The OP started off by more or less saying that he was disposed to believing in conspiracy theories. In that respect he seems to fit the demographic very well i.e. if they believe in one conspiracy theory, there is a strong likelihood that they will believe them all - and will be willing to believe new ones as they arise.

I have buttoned down the characteristics of a person prone to believing rubbish like this -

i) poor or non-existent scientific or engineering knowledge

ii) gullibility

iii) poor overall education

iv) an inflated view of their own intelligence (i.e. they are too stupid to realise how stupid they really are)

v) unwillingness or inability to be persuaded by facts or understand that there are people out there who actually know more about such topics than they do (see iv above - and also Donald Trump)

Over the past decade or so, there seems to have been an increase in the numbers of such people as described above. Whether that is really the case it's hard to tell - after all, the terminally stupid have been around since the dawn of humanity. However, the Internet has a lot to answer for in giving them a platform to spread their ignorance around.

I think they are the ones who are leaving religious belief systems and need something to fill the void of faith and the need for an emotional crutch. It's just another crazy belief system.

Two things about conspiracy theories.

Firstly, Most are mathematically impossible.

Secondly, they are universally believed and spread by those who have some kind of hole in their life/personality and need to feel special somehow. You know, "I'm so special, only i know/see the truth". Normally goes hand in hand with the heavy use of 'Sheeple'.

Some are easily dismissed as the ravings of a tinfoil hat wearing lunatic.

Others are quite damaging, so stop spreading nonsense and get some help.
