This guy runs a science channel on youtube, I watch his videos on and off. Mostly I think he debates sceptics of HUman climate change.
He's made a video that satirises and then explains the human interest in science conspiracies.
He lumps in flat earthers with sceptics of human climate change (and others)

Life is too short to bother with such nonsense, to be honest. If people chose to be willfully idiotic, I prefer to leave them to their own inane (not to say "insane") devices.

I watched the Joe Rogan podcast with Matt Taibbi. He touches on this. He's been around politics/stuff a long time and has seen how 'fake news' and similar themes have taken root and can flourish in this instant info society.
