Just let the dog out for a slash and noticed it was a clear sky so went out for a star gaze. There is a bright object low on the horizon to the south. Putting a compass bearing on it its near as dammit precisely due South of me in Milton Keynes now, 12:40. I tried Star Map on my phone but its not showing anything obvious. Assuming its a planet?

I stood and watched for a good few minutes just to make sure it wasn't the Ryanair 11:30 from Cork :-)

Anyone know what it is?

I’ve got Jupiter due South at present. Saturn’s there too, but not as radiant as Jupiter. It is a really clear sky tonight. Happy stargazing!

It's Jupiter.

If you get a pair of binoculars on it you'll be able to see up to 4 moons around it too!

SkyView app is great for identifying planets and stars.

Cool thanks all. Not sure why it wasn't showing on the app, will try the other one mentioned.

Last year in central France in our rural cottage (ie no light pollution) we could see Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn all in the sky at the same time. Amazing.

It was visible here in the UK too.

Those planets aren't lined up in the same way this year.
