I want to calculate the volume of an irregular shape (it's a speaker cabinet).

Can I be cheeky and ask (it's not too much trouble) for someone to calculate this for me please?

All dimensions are on the drawing below.

Thanks in advance.

That's a 2D shape you've shown, to calculate volume you need 3 dimensions, length, width & height.

The height is given at the top of the page...

I don't have all the info, but without knowing the internal angles i can give you 77161.42cm3 for starters

Knowing the overall height and width of the shape and/or the internal angles would be helpful to get it more accurate

I took the height (60cm) to be the distance from the base line (27.74cm) to the apex of the pentagon, you can then work out the area of this pentagon.

Edit: actually that's not possible as 35 + 20.5 < 60 .....

However without the internal angles of the pentagon, you can't work out the area.

nah, then the 20.5 and 35cm don't work. I took 60cm as the height of the shape when extruding the profile.

73092.694cm3 is your answer.

I used the sketch in solidworks to work out the angles myself.

An accurate dimension bisecting the shape in some fashion should provide the necessary extra information. Just a measurement from any one corner to another.

Or just wrap it tightly in clingfilm, chuck it in a full bath, and measure the water displaced...?

That's cool, how do you know the 49 cm bit?

Wow, thankyou @designforlife - I don't need the weight - these are already built out of what seems to be 25mm MDF and they are extremely heavy!!!!

Thanks to everyone else too.

Very much appreciated.

beer

EDIT: Loving the 3d screenshots - I tried to draw this myself in 3d but had no clue where to start!

He assumed the original diagram accurately depicted the shape.
