• If an object rotated / spun / spinnnned fast enough in space, would centripetal (?) force eventually tear it apart?
yes, space has no impact on this in essence, spin anything fast enough it will fall apart.dibbers006 said:
• If I took a sealed container of gas into space (maybe a Tupperware) and then opened it, would there be a small pocket of gas in space ? If so, I guess there are pockets of random st throughout space? In which case, could I poke my head in a gas pocket and potentially breath until I'd exhausted the gas?
The gas would rapidly (explosive) expand to a point where you couldnt breathe it almost instantlyIf you started off with a sufficiently large enough canister (light seconds+ long) you would survive a long time though.
There is LOTS of gas in space. It is extremely tenuous and of no use for breathing but it is often dense enough that it will glow if excited by background radiation from stars.
The blue glow that surrounds the stars of the Pleaides star cluster is partly made up of glowing gas which has been excited by the stars. Some of it is also made up of dust.
