I was listening to radio station where it was suggested that Oxford is not the best place to study science.

A couple of days on I went to see my sister and they proudly told me that the daughter's teacher suggested she should apply to Oxford to do chemistry, not thinking I engaged my mouth and out pops but Oford isn't the best place to do science!

Upset parents went on their tablets and pointed out Oxford is the seventh ranked university to do Chemistry. any thoughts

I am going to keep my nose out of it but isd there, I am guessing rankings are not everything

Depends on what table you wish to use. Guardian Which University guide, which is aimed at the UG course, puts Oxford 1st and Liverpool 2nd.

Times Higher puts Oxford 1st.

QS world rankings (research and reputation based) puts Cambridge above Oxford.

Best to look at departments/subjects rather than universities. There is a lot of variation between departments at a university as well as variation between universities.
