People often complain about the money spent on projects like the Large Hadron Collider as being a waste of money - but they often fail to consider the huge advances in offshoot technology derived from these projects.

...and let's not forget that money spent ends up as someone's wages, which they pay tax on, and spend elsewhere...

It might have taken billions to put a man on the moon, but the money doesn't just disappear, it gets spent in the wider economy.
