Article about Trump's intended creation of a US Space Force

Rather scary is his stance of wanting to dominate space by military force - if it's anything like his desire to dominate everything else then maybe it's time to start worrying frown

The US Air Force Space Command has existed since 1982.

Hiving it off as a separate branch is really no different from when Harry Truman created an independent US Air Force from the Army in 1947.

Something we did with the RAF in 1918.

Actually makes sense in the long term scheme of things. Ronnie Raygun had Starwars of course. More appropriate now

Yes, it's part of a general plan to push the space sector and boost the economy in that direction. Watching the speech, he was also talking about freeing up outdated regulations and encouraging the "budding commercial space industry".

among the bigwigs in the audience were the CEOs of Northrop Grumman, Boeing, United Launch Alliance, Lockheed Martin, Blue Origin and SpaceX. Buzz Aldrin was in the front row.

Two things:
1. No, you’re 50 years to late to start worrying. This isn’t a trump thing.
2. If the US didn’t “dominate” space, someone else might, and that could turn out to be more worrisome.
3. As a poster pointed out above, there are several branches of the us military that do spacey stuff so this is a consolidation.

O/T: I’m no fan of Trump or his disgusting crime family, but I’m also getting incredibly frustrated by the wafer-thin hysterical knee-jerk reaction to anything the US does

Blowing st up in orbit is a very bad plan, currently however the Chinese are the most egregious violators of this general rule of thumb. Just sayin'

Putin wants to dominate everything and his people love him...

Every Amercian and Russian leader has wanted to dominate space, so nothing's new. Just another anti-Trumpfest.

Could be a good thing, Nasa's budget for 2018 is $19.1 billion where as the US defence budget for 2018 is around $600 billion. All we need to do now is convince Trump that there is Oil on Mars and little green men who need some Freedom and lets see how quick they get a manned mission together. laugh

NASA may not have 'closed', but then it hasn't got a man beyond Earth orbit since 1972. Ask the man in the street what NASA has done and they'll probably say 'What's NASA?' Trump's audience are those people.

So in a way, yes, if you want to go further than Earth orbit, something - ie NASA - needs a kick up the butt, and lots of money. Trump is the only man who can do that. If you want to see man on Mars, follow da man. What he says to get there doesn't bother me too much.

It's either the dementia kicking in and Trump has got his aliens confused with his illegal aliens or it really is...

Why do they make me chuckle? I guess because I have a different sense of humour to you?
