Happy Birthday Stephen Hawking

The Simpsoms and Big Bang Theory star Professor Stephen Hawking CH CBE FRS FRSA celebrates his 76th birthday today, some 33 years after doctors suggested that his life support be switched off while suffering from pneumonia in Switzerland.

Unfortunately his family have just announced his passing today.

Truly sad. But this is pi-day / Ensteins birthday, and was born the same day as Galileo died.

Some decent if unfortunate cosmic timing.

The respect this man earned considering his condition, is staggering.

I have read his books. Some of his papers. Loved every time he was on Big Bang Theory(brilliant). Even the movie of his life.

I don't know what to else say really. He influenced my life and my love of physics and cosmology.

this fact alone would make anyone remarkable in their own way. The fact that he survived for so long AND did all the stuff he did makes the story of his life even more incredible imho.

A true Icon and someone who should be revered for his intellect but also for his humility and his humanity. He always seemed to be able to still have that sense of wonder and pass it on to others.

A man who transcended his field and was globally recognised, just seemed an exceptional human being let alone scientist
