A bit of work remains to be done to establish for sure if the path around the sun really is hyperbolic. And even if it is, it doesn't have to mean that it came in from somewhere outside the solar system. It could have been a solar system object in a highly eccentric orbit which has been accelerated into a hyperbolic path by an encounter with one of the giant planets, such as Jupiter or Saturn.
