It's pretty much inevitable it'll happen at some time. It has before. It will again.

Would be a fascinating time to be alive to watch the world descend into utter chaos before it hit

For "impending doom" read "for a small light to appear in the night sky that most people wouldn't notice, and the risk of a comet hitting the Earth rising from bugger all to next to bugger all". It's not as exciting, I know.
