I love these scenarios.
However, if the current crop of 'survival' programmes is indicative, the survivors, fresh from their closeted 21st century world, will try to set up a democratic committee where eveyrone one is equal - then argue a lot, cry, forget to sort out any food, argue some more, starve, then call the rescue helicopter to go back to their smartphones, lattes and PC nonsense.
And those were the people who wanted to do it!

True, human nature will out. I was really interested in the way that our technology is stacked, with everyone standing on someone else's shoulders, and how far we could get with the knowledge PH members carry around. I can write software, but I can't design a chip. People who design chips perhaps couldn't make them, and even if they could, could they design the machinery and synthesise the reagents and substrate? Could the people who design the machinery manufacture it? Could those who manufacture it build their tools? And so on, until we get someone digging minerals out of the ground, probably using machinery which runs software...
