while I knew technicians carried out work on the LM while on the pad, I didn't know about these work platforms which fitted inside the SLA.

Ingenious design, allowing access to all parts of the LM while still being able to be removed via the small hatch prior to launch - did they get a gynecologist to help with the design ?

a) in pieces through that small hatch

and

b) very very carefully, to avoid damage to the LM

Aye, appreciate that happened. Anything else left to show it?

Apollo 15 Photo AS15-88-11882. Notice here the damage done to the engine bell on touch-down. No worries, they won't need it for takeoff!

As they touched down on the surface Jim Irwin exclaimed "Bam!" and later "No denying that. We had contact!"

It will buff out.......

Pity the issue with 12 camera was not on camera, apart from the rendition on the HBO series. Though they did have fun 30 seconds or so into launch.

Anyhoo, one LM that went to the Moon (around it) and the Earth.

Spooky, a TV show has just popped up on Netflix, dated 2017. Mission Control.

Sunday evening sorted.

One of my favourite episodes of the "From the Earth to the Moon" TV miniseries is "Spider" about the development of the lunar module.

They're all worth a watch though.

Excellent series - highly recommended.

Thanks for posting on this aspect of the LM and its adapter. Despite reading tons of stuff on the LM an Apollo in general, I hadn't been aware of this particular aspect of the programme.

Ate my lunch under what was probably a mock up today.

I couldn't see the DSKY on this simulator though, anyone know where it is located? On the right pilots side.

That's the DSKY keyboard dead centre, low down, but there's just a blank panel above it where the display should be.

Composite photo by Jon Hanckock, showing LM Eagle's docking drogue stowed in Colombia's lower equipment bay during Apollo 11. The thing just below and to the right is the bottom of Columbia's docking probe seen end on.
