As there is no particle transfer and therefore no mass, am I right in thinking this could be used to communicate across vast distances instantly (therefore communicating faster than c?) Or am I completely missing the point of this discovery?

All I can conclude from that article, is that Fiona MacDonald doesn't understand what has been demonstrated; being charitable about her inability to construct a cogent sentence, that fact alone means that I don't understand what may have been demonstrated. If I get some spare time I'll have a bit of a dig around.
