One bad thing about this will be all the drivel on the internet.... we are doomed.....


Mind you WR 104 was a scary prospect for a while. Around 7,800 light years away.

If they have their understanding correct, this will be a nova, not a supernova.

For Supernova's I thought it was less that 600ly for the jets and less than 100ly for the blast front that we should be worried.

I.e. We don't know the Orientation of Betelgeuse when that finally goes.

WR 104 (Wolf Rayet) is a particular type as I understand it and its rotation was first thought to put its poles pointing at us, the bit that the dangerous burst would out. So the burst would have been deadly. I think that recent studies have shown it to be pointing away from us by enough as not to worry.
