The Flat Earth - Don't worry I'm not one of them
Discussion
Just opening this up for discussion.
Has anyone else ever looked into this theory. There premise basically goes like this.
1) We have all been lied too and NASA lie!
2) The UN flag shows a flat earth - Therefore the truth!
3a) The horizon is always flat and at (yes at) eye level! - I know!!
3b) No matter how high you go you can never see curvature! - Many videos on this.
4) Watch a ship disappear over the horizon - Then use a telescope and you can see it again, thus proving that it goes out of view due to perspective and not curvature.
5) The Sun and the moon look the same size - because they are! AND they circle above the flat earth causing day/night, moving in and out during a year to create seasons.
6) Antarctica doesn't exist, no one has ever been there, or crossed it, as what we call Antarctica is actually an ice wall that surrounds the edge of the earth and holds the oceans in.
I'm sure I've missed some points but this covers most of it. Some of it is quite interesting to watch yet most of it laughable. I've had many discussions with my colleague who actually has researched and believes this s t

Isn't it just a joke like the Flying Spaghetti Monster? I never assumed people were actually taking it seriously, just arguing for the fun of it.FunkyNige said:

I see you are a structural engineer, so you use satellites don't you? Something they deny. Also you should be able to explain how long suspension bridges have to take into account the curvature of the earth, right? I find it difficult getting proven facts through to my mate too though. There is a very good book about the history of the theory. Most of what you think (about this) isn't true.
It is worth thinking it through though - what would it take to prove it to you, and has it been done?
ETA - I think this one:

That must be quite a long suspension bridge you're thinking of there! Eric Mc said:
This is the "Science" forum, I thought.
It's a scientific subject. But it's also an open forum that people have made some other points and some of those have pointed towards religion, they can do that if they wish. I thought the scientific people might discuss: Gravity, seasons, the horizon, constellations, other planets, the tropic lines, magnetic poles, speed of earths orbit and rotation, centrifugal and centripetal forces, so if you'd like to make a scientific contribution rather than slate the topic then please go ahead. Discuss .....
