It's amazing how black the moon looks in reality.

Everything is black unless it has light shining on it (suns excluded of course!)

Incredible, i have to say that the moon in the night sky is a blinder, trying to look at it through any telescope without a filter is next to blinding.

It's incredible to see that the moon rotates with earth, i remember a work-mate saying that the moon is some alien construct due to the perfection of it's size and the way it rotates.

Some people don't deserve science.

To amplify what I meant to say - given equal lighting conditions, it's amazing how black the moon looks in comparison to earth. And this is indeed true as the moon has a very low albedo - it's just that we don't see the low albedo so clearly.

Yep - it has around the same albedo as an aged asphalt road.

Maybe that's why it hasn't got a mate?

There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact, it's all dark.
