Taken last week near a beach in the resort of Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. I thought some sort of volcanic measuring devices but don't have a clue. A few boxes had open doors.

Power supply for chalet/mobile home type accommodation?

Do you have a link to google maps of the area? Maybe have a look at archived Google satellite images to see if there's anything from a couple couple of years ago.

The only thing I know of similar to that is an experiment to measure the number of cosmic rays hitting the Earth although these are usually filled with water

Random thread resurrection!

I thought cosmic ray monitoring used huge, underground silos of water? (this was from my physics days, so times may have changed in those *whispers* 16 years).

I believe you're thinking of neutrino detectors

You're right. That's 16 years of hard graft, children, no sleep, and much alcohol. I'm surprised I manage day to day tasks so it's no shock that I'm unable to recall much detail from my Physics a level!
