Mrs Blackpuddin dragged us out the door tonight to show me something I'd never seen before - a huge ring around the moon. We're in Wiltshire but I gather it's also in Surrey. Worth poking your head out of the door if you're still up, it's quite something to behold.

Just seen this in East Kent, quite striking. Been a very long time since I last saw it like that. Remember trying to find out the cause, buggered if I can remember what it was now though

Nice clear shot Blackpudding
I missed it last night though I've seen it a few times in the past

Only seen this once a few years ago. The same year I saw a moonbow which was an unusual sight too!

I saw sundog a few days ago, which is also caused by atmospheric ice crystals, another one of those rare natural oddities that is worth just stopping to appreciate.

Nice picture Blackpuddin.

Nice photos folks.

Saw this on Monday eve; went back inside and mentioned it to my OH along with the comment "isn't that meant to be a harbinger of snow?" Lo and behold it snowed overnight so I guess the answer is yes!

Never knew what formed tham so thanks for the education in this thread.

Taking up the weather theme, legend has it that the number of stars you can see inside the ring is the same as the number of days before bad weather arrives.
